A Boat Journey

Poetry

I was one day aboard a boat
I set out to sea with my goal in sight
The air was hazy as I saw men in view
And when the coast to me was gone
I felt it hit me in the night
A cold breeze without warning
Lay around me
Like a mother who covers her child’s exposed body
It took me in and so I looked out to sea

There I saw a darkness of the night
For my eyes black did it only see
And to my heart brought unease
Although the wind had sought to cover me
It was the night that poured a sense of mystery
I asked myself what lies beyond that which I cannot see

So I looked up at the sky above me
Riddled in lights that at home are shy
For in the midst of humanity
These stars lay behind the cloud of mans pollution
I wonder I said

What causes this balance of peaceful engagement
Where the wind sought to protect me
And the sea spoke of uncertainty
But the stars reminded me of all the above

A creator whom sewn in us is his love
Close to us even than the wind, sea or stars
All praise is to he
For my journey was to the sea
But it is he that says ‘be and it will be’
