With the turn out for the AV vote being so low it sometimes amazes me how some people are adamant at not getting involved in the world around them. The turnout of London was 35.4% , really do think about this and consider that if the referendum was successful then it would mean that a minority would have caused that change. Yes, AV perhaps is not as important as the general elections but I really do not see any reason why one should not vote, this is a given right upon you which dictates that you as an individual is respected highly enough to engage with the state and voice your opinion.
This opinion is not something we gain for free for during our life times will be no doubt be paying our taxes and over the period of our lives that amounts to a hefty sum of money. This really is what gives us firm control over that key we call our vote. If I set aside the issue of voting it surprises me further at the lack of interest or awareness some individuals have politics, it is no good to say that “politics is not for me” because quite frankly politics is being exercised all around us, it is not too far behind us and will always be in front of us.
Really what my point is, is that next time we have a national election then do take time out and consider how important your vote is, others in the world give up their lives to taste this freedom. No matter how useless you may think or feel your vote is the mere opportunity to voice your opinion is one that should entice you to vote.
